Alibaba's Jack Ma painting fetches $5.4 mln at auction

Alibaba Chairman, Jack Ma, could well be one of the highest-paid painters. Yes, painters. Not the first profession that comes to mind when talking of the entrepreneur and billionaire investor.

His painting 'Paradise' (above), made together with Zeng Fanzhi, one of China’s most popular artists, sold for 42.2 million Hongkong dollars ($5.4 million) at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong; roughly 20 times more than expected.

The proceeds will be donated to the Paradise International Foundation, an environmental protection NGO created earlier this year by Chinese philanthropists including the two artists.

Ma’s first painting was also sold for charity, to a project of the China Red Cross and Taobao.
