Rovio will launch a new puzzle game 'Love Rocks' on Oct 15 together with pop star Shakira, as the creator of Angry Birds franchise looks for new growth.
"Love Rocks will engage fans in solving fun, sometimes very challenging puzzles while they tap their toes to Shak’s irresistible beats," Rovio said in a statement on Thursday. "So what’s this all about? It's about rocks, not birds. It’s about a totally new game, free of avians and free of anger, but full of love. Not just another Crush, it’s true Love – and it Rocks!"
Rovio has struggled to find new hit games as popularity of Angry Birds, the top paid mobile app of all time, has waned over recent years. In August it forecast its earnings would fall for the third year in a row, and unveiled plans to cut up to 39 percent of its workforce.
The Finnish gaming firm has failed to create new hit games since the 2009 launch of Angry Birds, though it has tried to capitalise on the brand by licensing its use on a string of consumer products. Last year, Rovio's total revenue fell 9 percent to 158 million euros, while operating profit fell to 10 million euros.
