New Smartwatch Tops Crowdfunding Target In Just 15 Minutes

Wearable technology firm Omate launched a unique two-day crowdfunding campaign for its Omate Rise smartwatch on Monday, which also doubles as a standalone cellphone, having its own SIM card, and reached its funding target in just 15 minutes.

“We are delighted to team up with Indiegogo for this 'World First' 48hour crowdfunding campaign. It’s a rendezvous with our community of users made of pioneers and innovators who share the same vision as Omate,Laurent Le Pen, Founder & CEO at Omate, said in a statement.

With the 48 hour crowdfunding campaign (most campaigns run for a month or even longer) the company says it wanted to stress the uniqueness of the offering. The phone, sorry watch, will be on offer for $199 for the next 2 days, while it would retail for $349 from mid-2016.

Omate Rise campaign stood at $61,727 in just a few hours after it started with 283 backers.

Omate, a hardware and software company designing wearable fashion tech products, made history with its first smartwatch crowdfunding campaign, raising more than $1 million back in 2013, and since then has launched other products and been in 500Startups, one of the most highly appreciated startups incubators globally.
